Ha! Oh goodness. I found myself reading this blog after many clicks which started with clicking on an ad that caught my eye (1968 class reunion) while surfing amazon.com. I remember many names. Dog gone it ... Herbert Wong is practically a neighbor in California. My sister, Barbara, keeps in touch with his family much better than myself. Guilty of being too busy to stay in touch. I did not graduate with you all ... moved and spent my senior year at two high schools ... Homestead High School (Steve Wozniak was my classmate ... lab partner in physiology ... wanted to kill him after a blood typing incident) then graduating from Berkeley High School. A few months at each of the high schools didn't leave me with any graduating class ties. My ties were stronger with GHS actually ... I should have made it a point to at least return for visits. Looking at Bill Beckman's photo of the kindergarden class of 1955-56 lit the fire to write. I remember going to kindergarden at the church with my cousin Florence Seid, however I'm not sure I see myself or Florence in the picture ... two gals with black hair and asian eyes blocked by hats?... hahaha ... I have got to get Florence to have a look. Thanks for all the posting and my condolences for those that have passed. |

Thanks, Rita for the kind comments. We did have an awesome event in Greenville this past weekend. I want to thank so many of you that were able to attend. To the ones who were not able ... we will do it again! Betty Lynn Cameron, Director of Main Street Greenville, was gracious to offer the Wetherbee House for our luncheon and some entertainment there. Thanks to the Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau (Wesley Smith and Lisa Winters) for grant money to help me with the cost of the luncheon. They also had museums opened for us to tour. Some of the Walnut Street owners offered to have a Block Party the same night as our Reunion but had to cancel because of the rain. Benny Howse and Bob Wilson stepped in and we had Johnny play a little longer. Duff was able to join later also. Thanks to them and thanks to all that came to Greenville, MS! |

Many Greenvillians (former and current) just experienced the most wonderful reunion party in Greenville, Ms. this past weekend. I am in awe of those who thought of this unique idea and labored to produce such a fabulous event! It was for all Greenvillians (not class specific) who had reconnected on facebook. I hope I do not leave anyone out when I send my praises to Bob Wilson, Benny House, Fred Barnes, Valerie Freudenberg Lee, Cathy Anne Leach Reynolds, Doe's Restaurant, the Yacht Club, Greenville Country Club and the Weatherbee House for all their assistance in making this a fun filled memorable weekend. I cannot express enough the gratitude and admiration I feel for my special friends who were able to make this happen. How the Committee was able to produce all of this at such a minimal expense for each person is amazing! You guys are awesome! Even when the block party got rained out Saturday night ... what a beautiful back up plan to extend the Yacht Club event where we could all continue such an enjoyable party inside out of the rain. You are all geniuses and I love you guys!! Fred .. thank you for having the foresight to post the event on our GHS68 website to get the word out. Well, time takes us all, doesn' it? You all may not recall me. I hope some will (Shirley Minchew, Quint McCall, Doug Dodd, Patricia Sweeney and others in my group). I did nothing special or earth-shattering while at GHS ... nothing to ignite a memory in many of you, but I remember many of you. And I have been neglectful of my classmates of 68. Just too wrapped up in my own life to keep in touch, I guess. You see, I never really thought my classmates cared to know about me or my life ... I always thought that reunions were nothing more than a competition (who made it BIG, who was successful, what you accomplished vs. what someone else accomplished and I did not want to be a part of that scene. BUT now that I have found this website and read all the blogs from you all, I have had some re-evaluating to do. I can see, at age 60, that there is not much more I will accomplish EXCEPT to continure to love my family, to support my family, and to be a friend to those deserving of my time, thoughts and care. I hope you will forgive me for not being a part of your lives via the reunions and memories. Yes, I still have memories of the great times with my group of friends, of the troublesome times also (Vietman draft and protests, social unrest, civil right marches, peace marches, JFK & MLK assinations, the emergence of drugs in America, and the social differences that all people encounter in life from grade school thru high school & beyond. If only we could all just have a better understanding that we are all the same inside ... all vunerable, all human, and all seeking love and acceptance ... what a wonderful world it might be. I have enjoyed reading the blogs, the pictures and comments, etc. I hope that Doug Dodd recovers (he was 'special' in my young life, but we were young) and that all of you continue to be healthy & prosper. I live in Clinton, MS with my husband of 40+ years and have two sons and one VERY SPECIAL GRANDDAUGHTER, AGE 5. What more could I ask for? |

Memorial services for Wayne Woods, 59, of Madison, and formerly of Greenville, were held Tuesday at Smith Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Feb. 20, 2010, at his home in Madison. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Greenville. Wayne was born Sept. 6, 1950, in Greenville, MS to Victor and Alberta Woods. He was a life long resident of Greenville where he grew up and attended school and graduated from Greenville High School in 1968. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was owner of Wayne Woods Inc. He moved to Madison in March 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Alberta Woods; and his brother, Marvin "Tinker" Woods. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Libby Childs Woods of Madison; his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Brad Johnston of Brandon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Wendy Woods of Canton, and Lee and Melanie Woods of Starkville; his brother, Melvin Woods of Leland; two sisters, Loyce Long of Greenville and Charlotte Wright of Kosciusko; six grandchildren, Bailey Woods, Landre Woods, Marybrenton Woods, Emily Woods, Colt Woods and Anna Lauren Johnston; and several nieces and nephews. The Rev. Cecil Rhodes will officiate. |

Class of 1968, St. Jo - Memorial services for Mary Melanie Kimble Ray, 60, of Leland will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Nov. 10, 2009, surrounded by her family, at her home. Melanie was the third of eight children born to Raymond VanTuyle Kimble Jr. and Doris Brown Kimble of Greenville, Miss. She married Kenneth Ray in 1971 in Hollandale, Miss. She was educated at St. Joseph High, Sienna College and Mississippi Delta Community College. Melanie was a registered nurse and worked for many years at the Leland Hospital. After Leland Hospital closed, she was a home health nurse until her retirement ten years ago. Melanie was an accomplished horsewoman. For 35 years, she and her friend, Dee Montigue, rode all over their Delta land in search of water and height. Most recently, Melanie built a pottery barn in her backyard, where she produced entirely original designs. Melanie loved her people and her workouts at the YMCA; she even mastered line dancing. Mel was the net that drew her extended family together, the clay that accepted all forms. Her laugh, in the words of a niece, filled the room and ran about like a bug infecting everyone with laughter. In a few words, she summarized ancient wisdom and modern tenderness. Generous, witty, gritty, fun-loving and loyal, she lived a life of few regrets. She was the caretaker of her parents and of anyone in the family who needed attention and comfort. She also traveled widely with her husband, her mother and sister. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bill; and her nephew, Vernon Kimble. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Ray of Leland; five brothers, Raymond Kimble and Harvey Kimble, both of Jackson, Jack Kimble and Dan Kimble, both of Ormond Beach, FL., and Emmet Kimble of Memphis, TN.; a sister Ann Kimble Loux of Salt Lake City, UT; and 13 nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be made to the YMCA in Greenville, MS. |

Hi all, this is Lonny Peacock. Kinda like Ronnie Sweet and Kenny Ware, I didn't make it through the 12 grade with everyone, but did finish in Dec. of 68. As everyone knows that's our age, being classed 1A was not a good sign. I spent 3 plus years with Uncle Sam, and not always at locations of my choice, haha, but made it back to civilazation ok. I have had several jobs after my tour with Uncle Sam. I just retired with Round Rock Police Dept. in 2008 as a K-9 handler. This was the best job anyone could ever hope for. Our Chief came to me the day I retired and ask me to stay on as a LOGISTICS OFFICER, which I said I would do for a while. My Wife Joyce, whom I have been married to for the last 26 years loves to travel , so we have an RV that we use every chance we get. We live in Austin TX and love it here. Lonnie, you have done a wonderful job on this web site. There is not a page I haven't seen. I want you to know that our prayers are with you and Freida. Thank you all for your prayers and concern. Freida is doing much better. She is out of Intensive Care, and may get to come home soon before returning for the second part of this procedure. She is still having to be medicated for headaches, which the surgeon told us to expect. It occurs to me that these prayer requests will only grow more numerous. If anyone would like to be notified via email when one is posted or updated, I can compile a group mailing list, which would allow you to share your concern without having to constantly check the class blog. Tuesday night my own wife, Freida had to be airlifted to University Hospital in Jackson with a severe cerebral hemmorhrage. It can happen to anyone at any age, but appears to be more common as age advances. She seems to be doing well (but not out-of-the-woods yet), but only because I was present, when the blood vessel burst, and I was able to call good ole 911 in time. Please put her in your thoughts and prayers as you have been in ours. |

A recent note from your fellow classmate, Doug Dodd, was shared with me, and I felt you all would want to know as well. Doug Dodd is the piano player with the Kracherjacks. From Doug: Again, I'm calling on each of you for prayer. The CT last Thurs. showed an enlarged lymph node in my neck. I don't know yet when they'll biopsy it, probably in a week or so. Please say a prayer for me, regardless of your beliefs, as our LORD hears all prayers. I'm a firm believer in the power of prayer. Just ask GOD to give me a good report, and for healing. Long time Greenville resident - Phil Vazzana - famous for being a pain in the City Council's side as well as a well known local architect, lost his home to fire tonight, from an apparent fire in the attic. The home was well over 100 years old and years and years of collected antiques and memorabilia were lost. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and Phil made it out in time to be okay too. Phil is nearly 80 years old - hard enough to lose your home at any age, but even more so at his age. |

Don ... I was so sad to hear the news that Terry had died. What a sweetheart of a guy! Please give my condolences to the rest of the family. I know you'll miss him. This is Don Day. For all who want to know about my brother, Terry’s death, here is the story. Terrry had heart problems at birth and this affected him until 12 years of age. He was the first child in Mississippi to have a successful open-heart surgery. Terry has been healthy for 48 years until 07-02-09 at which time he had a massive heart attack by probable blood clot. I'm a little late sending this but I was like everyone else, I enjoyed the reunion so much. You know we graduated with so many, but each and every one made our class a very special class. Even though we weren't all best friends, everyone touched us all in some special way. We have a connection that will last throughout our lives. As years go by, we might not know what happened five minutes ago, but we'll remember our school years and all our geat friends. See you at the next AARP Convention (Ha). But when things get bad for us we remember " We never stagger, we never fall......." |

GHS Classmate of 1968, Terry Day of Ruston, LA, brother to Don (Jena, LA) and Dennis Day (Greenville, MS) died late Thursday evening, 7-2-09. I don't have details, but it is well known that Terry had a hole in his heart at birth and has had issues with his heart all of his life. I suspect that his death is connected to these heart issues, but it is only a guess. Stay tuned. |

I would have been with you guys Pete McKee, Lonnie Looper, and all the rest of my friends i had in the class of 1968, but I quit school in the 11th grade, but I came back and it put me in the class of 1969. I am still as Ronnie Sweet said, "Rockin' and Rollin', playing drums, with Ronnie Sweet. we have played together all our lives. I went to the 1969 class reunion and had a ball. I sit with an old high school love, Brenda Connelly and that felt strange but good at the same time. I just thought I would say hello to all my 68 friends, because I should have been there. Well, even though I jumped ship six months before graduation, I still went through most of my school life with a lot of you. So, I just wanted to say "Hell-o". I spent a couple of years in the army after school, and still married to the Ella. Still playing bass guitar, rockin' and rollin' on the weekends, wherever we can get somebody to gives us money! I think seeing the names of the ones that have passed on brings back so many long lost memories, yet it's hard to be happy and sad at the same time. I guess they live on through us, as we will hopefully live on through our friends and family. Anyway, just wanted to chime in, hope you don't mind. Peace! |

Wow! Marilyn and I seem to have "ruffled some feathers" referring to those who danced the "Gator." Didn't mean to offend anyone. I'm sure Marilyn didn't mean to either. I just enjoyed watching everyone dance ... whatever they were doing HA! It's really nice to take a break from work and responsibilities and just get together with fun loving people and all have a good time with no worries! It was great! |

Well, there are not enough words to say how much fun I had (even though this was the first reunion I have been to). It was an absolute blast - I thoroughly enjoyed seeing everyone - it seems like most of us just picked up like it was 1968 again - and not that 40 years have gone by. Thanks so much to the "Committee" for EVERYTHING that they did. Also, thanks so much to Lonnie for this website. It is really great to just pull this up and still be able to catch up with others lives.The band was FANTASTIC. It was also great seeing Johnny Avent again - and remembering every afternoon after I got off the bus, to walk down to his house and listen to the BAND practice. Those really were the GOOD OLE DAYS!!!!!!! |

I think David out did himself with all that "James Brown" dancing on stage, I would loved to have been a fly on the wall when David got up Sunday. He had to ache all over!!! I know I used muscles that I did not know I had. It took me 2 days to feel human again, but oh, what a GREAT time I had with friends, and YES, we will do it again in 5 yrs. I understand from David's wife, Cheryl, it was only Jan doing the Gator. David has always been a "James Brown" kinda dancer. He likes to slip and slide and drop down low, so I can see where the mistake could be made. No one loves to dance more than David. I have seen him on many, many occasions over the many years and 'gator' is NOT one of the many demonstrations of his dance ability. If there is a name for it, I am not sure what it would be other than the hurly-gurly, twist, slip and slide, how-low-can-you-go combo. I am spouse to Roy Jones and, here to say, we had a great time too. Took me a while, but I finally got Roy on the floor, and after that we stayed until exhausted and time to go home! Thanks to all for their hard work. Being the Chairman for my Class of 1972 reunions, I can attest to the many hours that have to be invested to pull one of these together. I will definitely remember the band, Earth Angels, when ours comes back around in 2012. They were more than a band, they were show people! They were great! |

Hello Classmates, now that I'm back at the salt mines, I wanted to send a note before I get too involved in the daily routine. Like everyone else, I had a terrific time at the reunion. I have to admit, after arriving at the country club, I thought I had entered the wrong room and stumbled into an AARP convention. Then I realized I was part of it! Sometimes it took me a second to recognize folks since no one was wearing hip huggers, paisley shirts, or mini-skirts like we did in '68. But everyone did look terrific, hale and hearty. Kudos to Judy, Becky, Lonnie, and the organizing committee. Y'all did a grand job and the reunion was a smashing success. Good Luck to everybody, and see y'all in Greenville ... at the next AARP convention! |

Like Jerry Bowen says, "DITTO!" I just can't express enough how much fun I had the entire weekend!! I had debated on whether or not to attend because I had So-o-o-o far to come. I had to leave my work assignment in Chico CA in order to be there. It would have been so much easier if I had been between work assignments and coming from my home in Mobile AL. I have to tell you, though, I am thrilled that I made the effort and took the time off from work. I haven't had that much fun in a long time. I was one of those who did make it to the end to see David Henry and Jan Sanders do the, "Gator." I wouldn't have wanted to miss that! Ha! And whatever that was that Fred Barnes was doing was fun to watch too!! Ha! The most important thing though is to thank the committee from the bottom of my heart for all the diligent work. Becky and Valerie it was so obvious how hard you worked!! You spent most of Friday night at the greeting table ... not to mention all the many hours behind the scenes for weeks before the event!! I am certain that none of us will ever know the actual number of hours all of you on the Committee spent putting the weekend together! Judy Berry, as usual you are always right there dedicating yourself to these Reunions .... Thank God for all of you ... including the hard working St. Joseph group and the entire GHS Committee. You are all more appreciated than you will ever know!! We must do a better job of staying in touch! We are getting too old to wait 5 to 10 years between Reunions so we have to think of doing something again soon!! It was great to see all of you again ... brought back a lot of pleasant memories ... WHAT A FABULOUS TIME WE HAD! I have not had that much fun in years. The classmates, friends, the band and all of the food and drink helped to make it an awesome time for everyone. My sincere thanks to the committee for all of their hard work. Those of you who could not attend were missed. The "class of 68" made more memories at the 40 year reunion, and I regret that the time went by so quickly. To all of you that attended, it was great to see you again. The Earth Angels last song of the night summed up about how I feel about all of you who were there,"Your Love Is Still Lifting Me Higher". God bless all of you and let's do it again in 2013! |

Go GHS68 !! I must say this was a great Class Reunion. Oh my, what happened to all the years. Once we arrived at the Friday Nite Event it all started coming back to me. Yes, there is a GHS68 and yes, I do remember my classmates. Many thanks to the Reunion Committee members that worked up this great event. Sorry we missed the Saturday events. I had already promised my family to help with the Youth BBQ competition in Cleveland on Saturday. Happy to report they won Grand Championship and 1st place in all divisions. The next day, Sunday, was our Family Farm Day. We went out on the farm to check the new forest growth and did some target practice. I must say, WATCH OUT, if you see Ginger with a handgun! She had never shot before and she hit that target every time! I have to believe her Pogo Games has her aim right on target. "Way to Go" Ginger! Did I hear someone say there would be another Class Reunion in 5 years? As soon as the date is confirmed please let me know. Let's not be strangers, keep in touch. – Gerri Hunter Armstrong |

All I can say is DITTO of everything else posted about the reunion. WOW what a great time.Thank you all for making my wife feel very welcome. What a great time had by all present. Everyone I've talked with said they had a wonderful time. All went off with a blast and the breakfast was delicious. I think we all haven't felt like that since high school. |

I am so sorry I couldn't be there! I know everyone had a GREAT time. I had to meet the tile men and painters to pick out all of my colors for our house here in Destin. Timing just didn't work out right for me. I really hate I missed seeing everyone. I hope everyone sends in pictures. Judy, do you think you can get me a copy of the group picture? We had a wonderful time at the reunion. I send thanks to everyone on the committee for putting together such an awesome weekend. What a wonderful, fun, partying weekend!!! The committee went over and above in providing for us to have a terrific time. Thank you committee!!!!!! .. from the emails, research to find as many as possible, the decorations at Italian Club, our ladies luncheon which was fantastic - complete with vintage style show, and the Country Club which was beautifully decorated, great food, etc. etc., but the best part was seeing everyone and re-igniting the old friendships. I am so glad that my husband and I went (those of you who could not make it, we missed you!) My only regret is not being able to "hang in there" on Sat. night late enough to see Jan Sanders and David Henry do the Gator! All the best to each of you ... Hope to see you at the next one! |

I want to thank all the committee members that worked with me to make this reunion the very best one ever!!! They have put in many hours and put up with my emails and phone calls!!! I know I can be "bossy" and a special thanks to Lonnie Looper, who made all our lives easier with this wonderful web site. I have rekindled old friendships and made new ones these last few months !!!
