San Francisco’s Chinatown, 2002 On this trip Janis and I were amazed at how friendly and helpful the homeless people were. Everywhere we went they wanted to strike up a conversation with us. We did not hesitate at all to ask them to take our picture whenever they approached us. We realized they felt a sense of accomplishment and self-worth whenever we handed our camera over to them. Of course they were always very gracious when we discreetly handed them a dollar or two for their helpfulness, and we never allowed them to decline our offers of monetary assistance.

Since leaving GHS I have accomplished much of which I am very proud. I have learned how to: Eat broccoli, change diapers, change the oil in a car, cook corn chowder, hang a storm door, check into a hotel, check out of a hotel, swim the breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly stroke, grow tomatoes, put up a garage door opener, ride a subway, eat a Subway, ride a bus, talk Texan (It's an awful lot like talking Southern), build and launch model rockets, assemble a doll house, burp a baby, say I'm sorry, forgive. I have learned more than I can possibly list here, but most of all I have learned that life is great and I am a very blessed person.
